About
Antoinette Wysocki’s paint features an innate engagement with process, fluidly integrating acrylic, ink, charcoal, pencil, gauche and watercolor. The result evokes fantasy and dream.
Her work uses complex spatial and geometric tension in layers, suggesting allegory and the abstract simultaneously.
A native of Washington, D.C, she holds a BFA from San Francisco Art Institute, served as Artist in Residence in Sonoma California in2 2020 and Santa Fe in 2000. She devoted her early career teaching in special education at the high school level, including with at-risk youth. She also spent 20 years eclectically in business, including fashion industry, startups and marketing around product branding and lifestyle.
Awarded a Santa Fe Artist Institute grant, and nominated as Best Emerging Artist by GLADD in 2009, she exhibits her paint internationally including New York, London, Hong Kong, Dubai and Los Angeles. Her work is in private collections including: Mandarin Oriental and the former Corcoran Gallery of Art, now part of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Gallery of Art collection. She has appeared in may publications and her work has been projected in Times Square NYC and the SFAI Tower in San Francisco, California.
She collaborates and brands actively, with work featured on clothes, a wine label, an album cover, and designer handbags.
Wysocki lives in New York with her husband and two sons.

Artist Statement:
My intention is to create abstract paintings that indulge in materials and focus on the expressive process itself. Balanced with details of organic imagery, evocative symbols and text, to address overall subjective translation and perception while addressing impediments of memory association.
I've worked to develop a process combining various materials, chance, control and analysis. Part of my focus is the balance of media and absorption rate so that the various materials interact, binding or refracting from each other or the canvas itself. Each work begins with action painting, with focus around gestures and washes, balancing chance and consciousness. The second stage of control defines the abstracted imagery pulling out elements, while balancing the raw with saturated. The mixed media can alter the pieces beyond repair or become the focus of the piece itself. The process is concluded in the analysis stage where the preponderance of symbols are defined through detailed drawings and brush strokes, insertion of dialog and deciphering of imagery.
These paintings are an active engagement with the viewers sense of process, their perception of media and ground, as well as layers of allegory and abstraction. They seek to balance the subjective with the concrete, the abstracted with the detailed and the sign with the signified.
